How to Measure for a Custom Suit: A Step-by-Step Guide

Accurate measurements are crucial for ensuring a perfect fit when ordering a custom suit. Here is a step-by-step guide for how to measure for a custom suit:

Gather your tools: To take your measurements, you will need a tape measure, a pencil and paper, and a friend to help you. 


Make sure you are wearing the type of clothes you will wear under the suit, such as a dress shirt and slacks, to ensure the most accurate measurements.

Measure your chest: To measure your chest, wrap the tape measure around the fullest part of your chest, making sure to keep it level and parallel to the ground. 


Take the measurement in inches and record it on your paper.

Measure your waist: To measure your waist, wrap the tape measure around the narrowest part of your waist, typically just above your belly button. 



Take the measurement in inches and record it on your paper.

Measure your hips: To measure your hips, wrap the tape measure around the fullest part of your hips, typically just below your hip bones. 


Take the measurement in inches and record it on your paper.

Measure your inseam: To measure your inseam, have your friend hold one end of the tape measure at the top of your inner thigh, near your crotch. 


Have them measure down the inside of your leg to the bottom of your ankle bone. Take the measurement in inches and record it on your paper.

Measure your outseam: To measure your outseam, have your friend hold one end of the tape measure at the top of your waistband, near the side seam of your pants. Have them measure down the outside of your leg to the bottom of your ankle bone. Take the measurement in inches and record it on your paper.

Measure your sleeve length: To measure your sleeve length, have your friend hold one end of the tape measure at the center of the back of your neck, where your collar sits. 


Have them measure across your shoulder and down your arm to the bottom of your wrist bone. Take the measurement in inches and record it on your paper.

Measure your neck: To measure your neck, wrap the tape measure around the base of your neck, where your collar would sit. 


Take the measurement in inches and record it on your paper.

Measure your shoulder width: To measure your shoulder width, have your friend hold one end of the tape measure at the top of your shoulder, near the base of your neck. 


Have them measure across your back to the top of your other shoulder. Take the measurement in inches and record it on your paper.

Measure your wrist: To measure your wrist, wrap the tape measure around the widest part of your wrist. Take the measurement in inches and record it on your paper.
